Abstract
This book was written to fill a gap in the literature of chemotherapy: to our knowledge, there has previously been no comprehensive review of reported results for the commonly used antineoplastic agents. We have attempted to do this, and hope that the work will prove useful to physicians in at least three respects: (1) to aid in the choice of a drug, and of an appropriate dose schedule, in a given clinical situation; (2) as a bibliography of clinical experience to date with each agent; and (3) to aid in the rational design of potentially useful drug combinations. Clearly, such efforts should be predicated on the fullest possible knowledge of results with each drug used alone. It is our feeling that this third objective will become more and more important as the trend continues in cancer chemotherapy away from the use of single agents and toward the use of combinations.
