Perspectives on Electron Transport in Semiconductor Structures

Condensed Systems of Low Dimensionality

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSB,volume 253))

Abstract

We examine current research on electronic transport in low dimensional semiconductor structures. It is argued that the transport phenomena have acquired a qualitatively new look in that quantum mechanical aspects have become very important. Better control of the defect scattering mechanisms has made possible significant increases in the length of coherent transport. For devices, both the small size of the structures and long mean free paths have led to great importance of carrier heating effects.
