Abstract
In the bulk of this text, emphasis has been on individual mechanisms of heat transfer. Where multiple mechanisms were encountered, they were typically in sequence, that is, a conduction problem with a convection boundary condition. It was always clear what mechanism of heat transfer applied. In real situations, it is not always obvious which mechanism will be predominant, and, indeed, more than one mechanism may be pertinent.
