Abstract
Mature human erythrocytes are incapable of de novo synthesis of purine rings, thus the turnover results from continual entry and release of purines into the plasma. The synthesis of IMP from exogenous hypoxanthine is thought to be primarily governed by the catalytic capacity of P-Rib-PP synthetase and the intracellular avaibility of P-Rib-PP (1-3).
