Chemistry of Antitrematodal Agents

  • Chapter
Chemotherapy of Parasitic Diseases

Abstract

The overwhelming attention of medicinal chemists and parasitologists concerned with trematode infections was directed toward schistosomiasis, a common plague of man in certain tropical or subtropical regions, and fascioliasis, a disease afflicting sheep and cattle with important economic implications. The lancet fluke (Dicrocoelium dentriticum) was subjected at one time to a systematic effort in search of new chemotherapeutic agents, which resulted in a specific drug for this infection.
