Nematode Infections of Domestic Animals: Extraintestinal Infections

  • Chapter
Book cover Chemotherapy of Parasitic Diseases

Abstract

This chapter considers those nematodes of domestic animals that live as adults outside the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. Migrating stages of intestinal worms such as Ancyclostoma, Ascaris, Strongylus, or Trichinella are not discussed, nor are worms found accidentally at such sites. The diversity of parasites in this group is clearly demonstrated by the number of superfamilies represented; these include the Filaroidea, Metastrongyloidea, Spiruroidea, Strongyloidea, and Trichuroidea. The variety and number of species prohibit presentation of complete details, and coverage is necessarily selective.
