Abstract
The skin is the largest organ system in the body. It contains several structures which are innervated by the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The sympathetic nervous system (SNS) is the branch of the ANS which seems to predominate in the skin. The structures so innervated are the epidermal appendages, i.e., the eccrine sweat glands, hair follicles (arrector pili muscle), and probably the myoepithelial cell of apocrine sweat glands, and the blood vessels of the dermia.
