Mobilization of Reserves in Germination

Part of the book series: Recent Advances in Phytochemistry ((RAPT,volume 17))

Abstract

Starch represents one of the major organic compounds in Nature and is the principal reserve polysaccharide of plants. It is a major component of the diet of man and many animals and starch is becoming an increasingly important, readily renewable resource as a raw material for the chemical and food industries.
