Abstract
Considered from a practical down-to-earth stance everything that has preceded this section of the book—all the history, the definitions, the concepts, the arguments, and the critiques—were merely a warm-up for the manual. The practical test of a therapeutic approach is not how well it explains but how well it works. In this manual the basic ideas of functional eclectic therapy will be put to work. Since the functional approach is quite broad and diverse it would be possible to generate many different practical programs. This manual presents only one set of procedures among the many that are potentially available. The closing chapter of this section offers suggestions about how to develop extensions, revisions, and alternatives to this particular program of therapy.
