Abstract
Heat capacity measurements (5 K – 350 K) of Mn3GaC and Mn4N are reported. Mn3GaC shows two anomalies at T1 = (171.83 + 0.06) K, of first order character, and at T1 = (243± 1) K, of second order character. The analysis of Cp below 10 K yiels γ (anti-ferromagnetic) = 0.0182 J/mol.K2 and the analysis of the entropy content of the T1 anomaly yields γ (paramagnetic) = 0.049 J/mol.K. Moreover, using Cp(Mn4N) to estimate the lattice contribution to Cp(Mn4GaC), the reliability of the γ (paramagnetic) value is checked.
