Abstract
The motivation for this work is the investigation of structural phase transitions by means of deformation measurements. The universal X-ray diffractometer AMADEUS (Automatisches Mehrachsen Diffraktometer für Einkristalluntersuchungen) is used in the configuration of a double crystal diffractometer in the dispersion free arrangement. This set up provides high resolution for deformation measurements. The profile of the Bragg-peak and double crystal topographies yield information about the sample quality. TGSe exhibits nearly tricritical behaviour with a transition temperature of 295.9 K. From the temperature dependence of the deformation, the thermal expansion is determined in a temperature range of 100 to 310 K. The results are compared with dielectric data from the literature. The thermodynamic behaviour can be suitably described by the Landautheory. The data fit especially well to the theory of Albera.
