Abstract

There is now a consistent body of evidence, which points towards the following fundamental building blocks of matter:

i) Three doublets of leptons:

charge

 

0

-1

ve

e-

vμ

μ-

vτ

τ-

The τ neutrino vτ has not been directly observed, but information on the τ decays makes its existence very likely.1,2

ii) Five (possibly six)3 flavors of quarks, which can again be arranged in three doublets according to their charge:
