Fluid-Bed Behaviour at Elevated Temperatures

  • Chapter
Fluidization

Abstract

Fluidization characteristics were investigated at temperatures up to 960°C. Bed voidage at minimum fluidizing velocity, cmf, increased with increasing temperature in laminar flow conditions and remained constant when the flow was in the transitional to turbulent regime. Published correlations for the prediction of Umf are inadequate for high temperature operations. Zabrodsky’s (193) correlation predicts maximum bed/surface heat transfer coefficients for gas flow in the laminar regime until the radiation component becomes significant above about 600°C.
