Abstract
My orientation and that of the Institute I represent is toward food production and how research can be directed to help increase that production. Events of the past two decades suggest that whether we like it or not, we all must be similarly orientated. The current state of relative world food adequacy can be likened to the Biblical years of plenty, certainly to be followed by similar years of food shortage and famine.
