Introduction to Some Solid State Methods for the Study of Isolated Implanted Atom Sites in Metals

  • Chapter
Site Characterization and Aggregation of Implanted Atoms in Materials

Part of the book series: NATO Advanced Study Institutes Series ((NSSB,volume 47))

Abstract

A number of methods exists in the field of solid state physics for the study of implanted atom sites in metals. This review will be concerned. with two methods which are especially suited for this purpose and which furthermore can be combined with nuclear physics methods. These methods are: resistivity measurements and thermal desorption spectrometry. For other methods, see the contributions of other lectures to this Summerschool. In chapter 4 some techniques are described for the analysis of experimental annealing data. In agreement with instructions given to the lectures, namely “that the principal goal of the Summerschool is that nuclear physicists and solid state physicists teach their methods to each other”, only the principles of these methods will be explained without going into much detail.
