Abstract
Don Zilversmit doubted if this was a City of Brotherly love, but certainly when William Penn founded it he called it Philadelphia, City of Love. There has obviously been no sexual discrimination in the warmth of our welcome here, and we are deeply grateful to William Holmes for yet another superb Symposium and to his wife Phyllis for joining him in gracious hospitality. Dave Kritchevsky not only arranged an admirably blended programme but regaled us with splended music of which perhaps the lipid variations on a theme of Fagin were especially outstanding. Our presence here has been greatly assisted by the generosity of various pharmaceutical companies that are listed. But we cannot be here without filling in forms of application to state our needs, and scientists — although no doubt brilliant lipidologists — are singularly inept at doing this. However, Mr. Hollerorth and particularly the indefatigable Mrs. Hyatt have made good our deficiencies. And as usual the Symposium was rounded off by the presence of the ubiquitous Rodolfo Paoletti who in an extraordinary way combines producing books and journals, organizing and attending congresses and carrying out important original research; some of you may not know that he has recently set up an Italian Nutrition Foundation. To all I have mentioned, and to the others who work so hard behind the scenes, we are deeply grateful for without their tireless efforts the Symposium could not be so remarkably successful.
