Abstract

The atmosphere consists almost entirely of nitrogen, oxygen, and argon. A fourth major component, carbon dioxide, essential to all plant life, is present only to the extent of about 300 ppm. The average composition is given in Table 29, based primarily on the work of Paneth.1
