Abstract

In this chapter we shall not dwell in detail on the role of electronic excited states of proteins and nucleic acids in photobiological processes (it has been very convincingly shown by numerous investigations) but shall confine ourselves to some remarks of a general nature. An analysis of the published information suggests four main ways in which electronic excited states of biopolymers can be implicated in photobiological cell reactions.
