Immunodeficiencies

  • Chapter
Fundamentals of Immunology

Abstract

Control of infectious diseases by immunotherapy and chemotherapy has made possible the survival of individuals genetically predisposed to a series of diseases including immunodeficiencies that formerly resulted in death before the individual reached reproductive age. As a result, today, rare genes are expressed, which formerly were the exception. Thus, immunodeficiencies may cease to be rare diseases in the not too distant future.
