Abstract

If G and H are groups, we make G × H into a group by defining
$$ \left( {{\text{g,h}}} \right)\left( {{\text{g'}},{\text{h'}}} \right) = \left( {{\text{gg',hh'}}} \right) $$
This works and if G,H are abelian so is G × H. (Exercises.)
