Abstract
The first high-voltage electron microscope (HVEM) capable of generating 1000 kV was put into operation in Toulouse, France, in the laboratory of Dr. G. Dupouy in 1960 (Dupouy, 1985). In 1969, Dupouy installed a 3000-kV instrument, which offered improved specimen penetration and reduced chromatic aberration, but did not offer significant advantages over the original 1000-kV instrument.
