Abstract
The one hundredth anniversary of Einstein’s birth marked the end of a century-long period during which the achievements of mankind in the sciences and in the understanding and control of the forces of nature made more progress, quantitatively and perhaps as much in qualitative understanding, as in all previous history. Einstein’s ideas contributed to this in a very large measure, not only in theoretical physics but also in its applications to technology.
