Abstract
Because of catastrophic failures in high-strength-steel structures (oil rigs, oil pipes, ships, and aircraft) due to hydrogen embrittlement, renewed interest has been shown in the study of hydrogen in ferrous metals. An investigation of the relation of surface hydrogen to that absorbed in the metal was thought to be necessary.
