Abstract

Dr. B. is a 27-year-old second-year resident in dermatology. She is unmarried and a native of a small town in the Midwest. She grew up in a family where both parents were physicians but in other specialties. She has pitch-black hair combed back in a bun and a deep widow’s peak. Her bright blue eyes are alive, and she has a ready, dazzling smile. She wore a crisp pale-yellow linen suit, a starched gray blouse, and fragile-looking tan pumps. She was a good talker and needed little prompting to tell her story.
