Abstract

Is it reasonable to attempt to draw some conclusions from the experiences of 52 house officers? It may be, if we proceed with caution and if we admit that much of what we think may be speculation. Having surveyed most of the available professional literature, I am reassured, in part, that most studies tend to rely on fewer data than these house officers have supplied. Worse yet, they may draw conclusions based on the experience in one specialty training program. It is even more dangerous to use a sample of impaired house officers, that is, those already referred for some form of clinical intervention.
