Abstract
In the field of materials science, an experimenter often wishes to perform a quantitative phase analysis on a given product. While wet chemistry can give an elemental analysis without difficulty, a phase analysis by methods other than diffraction is difficult if not impossible to perform. With the advent of the powder diffTactometer, quantitative phase analysis by X-ray diffraction has become widely known and accepted. Unfortunately this acceptance of has been clouded, as results are often fraught with anomalous inconsistencies.
