Abstract
Chromomycosis of amphibians is a fungal disease characterized by the occurrence of ulcerative or granulomatous skin lesions and/or disseminated granulomas in internal organs. The reported history of the disease in amphibians began with the report of Carini (1910) on a case in the South American bullfrog, Leptodactylus pentadactylus. This antedates the first reported human cases by Lane (1915) and Medlar (1915). Experimental production of the disease in several animals, including frogs, was first accomplished by DeArea Leao et al. (1947) and extended to toads by Trejos (1953).
