Abstract

When the Society for Invertebrate Pathology met in College Park, Maryland, for its 1970 annual meeting and for the Fourth International Colloquium on Insect Pathology, the Edward A. Steinhaus memorial address was given by Dr. Edward F. Knipling of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. As he pointed out, we owe a great debt to foresighted individuals such as Edward Steinhaus and Arthur Heimpel, not only for their personal scientific contributions but also for their support to the field of microbial control of insects (Knipling, 1970). It is entirely appropriate that we should honor their contributions now.
