Abstract
Individual humans and animals obviously can be distinguished at the level of body form, physiology, biochemistry, and psychology. The basis for this individuality must at least partially be genetic. New advances in molecular genetics have illuminated the mechanisms of regulation of genetic systems. This information tends to deemphasize some simple models explaining the basis of individual variation and suggests alternative hypotheses.
