Abstract

The usefulness of vascular endothelial cells as a model culture system to study disease has yet to reach the point where results obtained in vitro can provide remedies for in vivo pathologies. Although it may be premature to think that this goal soon may be achieved, investigators who are currently studying this cell culture model are probing some basic questions that are of intrinsic interest to cell culturists and cell biologists. With this as an underlying theme, our intention is to present an overview of the work being carried out in our laboratory on the proliferative and differentiated characteristics of bovine aortic endothelial cells in culture.
