Abstract

Recent results on the lifetimes of charmed particles observed in emulsion and high resolution bubble chambers are discussed and compared with theoretical expectations. While experiment BC73 at SLAC observes charged-to-neutral lifetime ratio much closer to unity than do the other experiments, all experiments are consistent with τ D ±D o= 2.5. Pair rather than associated production seems to be the dominant charmed particle production mechanism. Photongluon fusion models are able to predict the charm photoproduction cross section.
