Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to examine various ways to resolve the discrepancy that exists between the theoretical calculations on K-shell autoionization probabilities in β decay and the measured values. The chequered history of the subject may be traced through the reviews and papers of Freedman and co workers1. Suffice it to say that Isozumi et al (ISM)2 found that the Law and Campbell (LC)3 model over counted the shake-off contribution by a factor of two; this correction thus destroys the remarkable agreement between theory and experiment.
