Abstract

For many elements Kβ/Kα ratio measurements have been performed using excitation by protons, electrons and ions (Berenyi et al 1978). Only for heavy-ion excitation’s the ratio generally dependent upon the exciting ion and upon the energy of the ion (Richard et al 1970). An explanation can be found considering multiple K, L and M shell ionization. For low Z-target atoms (Z < 18) energy dependent Kβ/Kα ratios may also be expected for light-ion ionization as multiple ionization becomes important.
