Abstract
How should dividing lines be drawn between specific responsiveness (“turn-on”) and specific unresponsiveness (“turn-off”)? This may be asked in view of the long-standing basic observation that nature cannot afford unlimited reactions of any type and that also a response to an antigen becomes limited sooner or later by a “turn-off”.
