Abstract
A key question in biology is the regulation of gene expression following interaction of cells with hormones, drugs, antigens and other cells. In most cases the critical event is combination between the biologically active effectors and specific receptor molecules in the cell membrane. It is therefore of the utmost importance that such receptor molecules be isolated and identified, the long term aim being to explain in molecular terms the alteration of cell phenotype following the primary event of receptor-ligand interaction.
