Abstract
Lymphocytes binding autologous (or syngeneic) erythrocytes in vitro have been reported to occur in a wide range of animal species (1–6). High auto- (and allo-) RFC frequencies (10–20%) have been reported for man, pigs, rabbits, mice and rats (4–6). Auto- and allo-RFC may have immunological significance. Thus Bach and coworkers (7) have shown that auto-RFC isolated from the spleens of adult thymectomized mice mediate a GvH reaction in normal syngeneic mice. Owen et al (8) have demonstrated that allo-rosetting rat T cells appear to be the precursors of allo-reactive cells in mixed leukocyte cultures.
