Localization of Antigen and Immune Complexes in Lymphatic Tissue, with Special Reference to Germinal Centers

  • Chapter
Morphological and Functional Aspects of Immunity

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 12))

Abstract

The localization of antigen, both cellularly and extracellularly, is an extremely relevant topic to this conference. The subject becomes especially significant in light of current studies which emphasize the role of tissue-retained antigens in the production and maintenance of the immune phenomena (1–3), and of reports suggesting that continuous antigenic stimulation is requisite for the complete differentiation of immunocompetent cells (4–7).

Research supported jointly by the National Cancer Institute and the U. S, Atomic Energy Commission under contract with Union Carbide Corporation.
