Experiments on Immunoprophylaxis Against Chagas’ Disease

  • Chapter
Immunity to Blood Parasites of Animals and Man

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 93))

Abstract

It is apparent from Dr.Teixeira’s chapter that attempts to immunize experimental animals against acute infections with Trypanosoma cruzi have met with only limited success, and virtually nothing is known regarding the possibility of immunoprophylaxis against chronic Chagas’ disease. Nevertheless, the limited success achieved thus far offers some encouragement that the development of effective immunizing agents for use against T. cruzi is feasible.
