The Morris Hepatomas as Models for Studies of Gene Expression in Neoplasia

  • Chapter
Morris Hepatomas

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 92))

Abstract

It would be difficult to exaggerate the impact of the Morris hepatomas on contemporary cancer research. For nearly two decades this series of chemically-induced, transplantable rat liver neoplasms has been a favored experimental model system for a wide range of approaches to the understanding of the neoplastic process. The large volume of research publications, reviews and symposia that have focused on the Morris hepatomas (48, 49, 50, 54, 81, 83) attest to their importance for large segments of cancer biology. One area in particular, that of tumor enzymology and metabolism, has exploited the Morris hepatomas to great advantage.

Experimental work of the authors was supported by grants from the National Cancer Institute, CA-10916, CA-12227, and from the American Cancer Society, BC-74.

The aid of Albert Williams and David Meranze is acknowledged with deep appreciation. Most of the work of the authors quoted here was conducted in collaboration with Harold P. Morris.
