Correlation of nmr Chemical Shifts with Hammett σ Values and Analogous Parameters

  • Chapter
Correlation Analysis in Chemistry

Abstract

This chapter is devoted to an examination of the correlation of nmr chemical shifts with Hammett’s structure-reactivity parameters and analogous parameters developed by others. Correlation analysis in nmr spectroscopy as a whole is, of course, a much wider field, involving as it does, exploration of the interrelationships between nmr data and the relationships between nmr data and molecular parameters (such as electronegativity, ionization potential, electron density, and bond order), solvent parameters, and classical magnetic- and electric-field effects. Although a few of these other aspects of correlation analysis in nmr studies will be mentioned, the major emphasis is given to correlations with accepted LFER parameters.
