Abstract

In this review I would like to describe the system of computerised tomography (C.T. scanning) as represented by the EMI scanner. Its original development was for the investigation of all structural abnormalities in the head, but here I will try and place in context the revolutionary effect it has had on the diagnosis and management of intracranial tumours. From this neurological experience, it is possible to predict the effect that computerised tomography will have for other specialities when whole body scanning becomes generally available.
