The Influence of Cathepsin D Inhibitors (Pepstatin and Anticatheptic Antibodies) on Serum Cathepsin and Lysozyme Activity of60 Co Irradiated Animals

  • Chapter
Intracellular Protein Catabolism II

Summary

In lethally irradiated (60Co) chickens and rabbits serum lysozyme levels were found to decrease gradually down to undetectable values. Serum catheptic activity increased sharply in chickens after ionizing irradiation and then remained at normal or slightly elevated values. Changes in activities of both studied lysosomal enzymes observed after ionizing irradiation, could be compensated to a certain extent by application of cathepsin D inhibitors — pepstatin and particularly anticatheptic immunoglobulin G.
