Selection Criteria at the Initial Stages of Therapy

Abstract

The search for selection criteria at initial assessment having yielded such modest results, it is natural to turn to the next period of the patient’s contact with the clinic, namely, the first few therapeutic sessions. The hope that this might yield something of value is strengthened by the evidence from the SBP series, in which it seemed that fluctuations in motivation during the first few contacts might have a considerable bearing on outcome.
