Abstract
Researchers in the field of fiber-reinforced composites have applied a variety of methods to evaluate not only the strength of the composite but also the interaction of the fibers and matrix at the fiber-matrix interface (1,2). The bond strength which is related to the wetting of the fiber by the matrix material is of great interest in studying the load transfer characteristics of composites (1-3). Furthermore, studies to evaluate thermochemical and mechanical degradation of fiber-reinforced composites in service resulting from physical and thermal treatments have been conducted. These studies depend heavily on metallography.
