Metallographic Methods Applied to Ultrathinning Lunar Rocks, Meteorites, Fossils, and Other Brittle Materials for Optical Microscopy

  • Chapter
Metallographic Specimen Preparation

Abstract

Petrography is an old method, and thin sections of thirty micron thickness have been used for well over 100 years. Indeed, early petrographers, such as H. C. Sorby, actually started metallography on its way. Since Sorby’s day, metallography and the preparation of metallic specimens have come a long way. During the same period, optical petrography has remained very static and conservative.
