Abstract
Books on scientific subjects can be divided into two categories: Ones written on fast developing subjects and becoming even faster out of date; and those written in the old-fashioned way on subjects which are expected soon to die. At the time of publication in 1967 I considered the book “Random Matrices” to be of the second category. Fortunately my expectation turned out to be wrong. The random matrices are not only still living but are healthy and growing as can be witnessed by the number of papers published and by a part of this conference itself.
Partly under auspices of U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. This review was prepared while the author enjoyed the hospitality of the Argonne National Laboratory during the summer of 1971.
