Abstract

In the economy of nature, it is impossible for any species of plant or animal to exist without exerting effects on other plants or animals. Microbes (bacteria, protozoa, and fungi), being perhaps the earliest forms of living things on earth, have exerted their influence in a multitude of ways, playing decisive roles in the survival of species, in the control of populations, and in the overall determination of the contour of life on this planet.
