Abstract

I mentioned above that the two hemispheres of the brain differ in importance and that one of them (the left hemisphere in right-handed persons), which is directly connected with the right hand and speech, is dominant (Part II, Section 1B). However, in the first edition of this book I refrained from a more detailed examination of the problem of the functional organization of the two hemispheres for the perfectly valid reason that at that time little was known about the character of this functional organization and the real forms of interaction between the two hemispheres in the mechanism of higher cortical functions.
