Abstract

Residues of chemicals such as pesticides, food additives, etc. in the diet may result in chronic toxicity when ingested over a long period of time. The effects of chronic toxicity may be very specific and quite different from the acute toxicity symptoms which are known in many instances. The action of residues of ethylene dibromide (1,2- dibromoethane, EDB) on animals is an example of such a specific mechanism.
