Abstract

Since “extraction” is virtually the first step in a complete analysis of pesticide residues from a variety of materials, including soil, the efficiency of extraction will play a decisive role in obtaining quantitative, reproducible results. Residues not extracted will not be estimated. Even if all procedures employed after extraction are satisfactory and the final determination is carried out by an advanced and sophisticated instrumentation, results obtained from inconsistent and inefficient extractions will be of little value.
